Current Student Software/Hardware Recommendation
In order to be as flexible as possible but yet ensure that students can access all of the technology resources available to them at SAIS, the following hardware/software recommendations are provided as a benchmark for student laptops for the school year 2009-2010.
Hardware
- Processor: Intel Core i5 (2 GHz or faster) Processor or Intel Core i7 (2 GHz or faster) Processor
- Memory: 4 GB RAM
- Wireless Card: 802.11 b/g Wireless card that supports WPA-Enterprise with AES 256-bit encryption (most wireless cards manufactured within the past two years will support this)
Software
- Office: Microsoft Office 2010 for PCs or Microsoft Office 2008 for Macs (academic pricing available through SPARS)
- Web Browser: Internet Explorer 8 (minimum) for PCs or Mozilla Firefox 3.6 (minimum) for Macs
- Antivirus: Symantec Antivirus (free for the Johns Hopkins community)
- Adobe: Latest versions of Adobe Reader and Flash Player.
