China Spring Film Series
The Grassroots China Initiative and the SAIS China Studies Department would like to invite all members of the SAIS community to a weekly film dealing with social issues in China. The films are 1-2 hours long and are usually followed by a roundtable discussion with Professor Anne Thurston, director of the Grassroots China Initiative. Light refreshments are provided. For the overall schedule of the China Spring Film Series, please click here. The next screening will be of The Lesson and Price of "Evil Cult", a China Central Television-produced film about Falun Gong, on Friday, April 30th at 5 pm in Rome Auditorium. On the afternoon of January 23, 2001, five Falun Gong followers attempted self-immolations in Tiananmen Square. The Lesson and Price of Evil Cult is a China Central Television-produced documentary about what happened on that day. It explores the questions of how the self-immolations occurred and why the Falun Gong followers chose to take these actions. |
