The Grassroots China Initiative | How to Contribute

Keep updated on the efforts of the Yushu Earthquake Response team.  Yushu Relief Aid Distribution

There are several ways to contribute to grassroots NGOs during the immediate relief effort.

The Yushu Earthquake Response (YER) team is a coalition of local NGOs who are leading the NGO relief effort in Yushu.  Their major focus is likely to be on remote and difficult to reach poor villages scattered throughout the prefecture as well as community organizing throughout the area.  You can visit the Yushu Earthquake Response team website and send money directly to the bank accounts of several local NGOs.  We are not yet certain how reliable this method is, since most banks have caps on the level of international funds that can be deposited into a Chinese account and because we fear the banks could be overwhelmed by too many small checks. (The bank in Jiegu was destroyed in the earthquake. All funds now have to go through Xining.)

Another possibility is to donate to the Tibetan Village Project, which is able to get funds into the area and is using them to provide the Yushu Earthquake Response relief teams with food and supplies.
