Introductory Financial Accounting (An Online Course)

The online course provides an introduction to financial accounting in a management context. The primary objective of the course is to increase understanding of the relationships among the financial statements used to describe a business. The section covers a range of topics including key accounting terms and concepts, understanding the balance sheet, and analyzing the statement of cash flows. Subjects covered include financial accounting; financial ratios; balance sheets; and financial, income, and cash flow statements. To make the material realistic and engaging, it is presented in the context of a new business, Global Grocer, a small retail franchise. The course describes the key business activities for Global Grocer, including its set-up and subsequent operation; then shows students how Global Grocer's business activities are recorded and captured in its financial statements.
