Carbon Markets: Design & Price Formation

Course Description
The course provides a detailed overview of carbon market design theory and the role of market mechanisms in addressing climate change around the world. It will focus on the European Union Emission Trading System, the Clean Development Mechanism, and the various North American carbon markets. For each market, the key design features, fundamental drivers, supply and demand dynamics and price formation will be discussed. The course will also include discussion of how policy decisions and design choices affect carbon markets. The course will use both lecture and simulations as teaching methods.
