1) N.Y.C. Summer Intern & Alumni Happy Hour at Hurley's Mingle with alumni and current SAISers interning in New York City on Monday, July 14 at 6 p.m. at Hurley's charming third-floor terrace located at 232 West 48th Street (at Broadway). Meet alums who have been instrumental in forming the SAIS N.Y. Alumni Club, learn about and offer your suggestions for a future organizational framework, and enjoy complimentary appetizers, beer and wine while helping to build the future of the alumni club in the New York area. RSVP for the event. To join the club, register via JHU inCircle. 2) SAIS Alumni College October 23-25 -- Register Now Reconnect with alumni of all professional backgrounds for a memorable experience that bears the hallmarks of the very best SAIS has offered students for the past 60 years -- intellectual rigor, a combination of historical and current perspectives on critically important policy issues, opportunities for direct interaction with some of our most heralded faculty and, of course, fun. Alumni College will take place less than two weeks before the U.S. presidential election, providing us with a ready-made theme for the event: "America's Next President: Assessing Global Priorities." We hope you will join us in October. For more information and to register, click here. 3) Save the Date: Knowledge for the World Tour in London Join SAIS alumni from D.C., Bologna and Nanjing for a day of discovery in London on Saturday, October 11. Reconnect with old classmates, make new acquaintances and hear from some of Johns Hopkins' biggest thinkers on issues like the international implications of the upcoming U.S. presidential election and the changing landscape of healthcare. Save the date! The Johns Hopkins Knowledge for the World Tour visits London on Saturday, October 11, from 2 to 7 p.m., at the Landmark Hotel. For more information, click here. 4) Check Out the New SAIS Web Site Check-out SAIS's new look online. You can still find us at the same place -- but you will find a whole new look when you do. 5) SAISers in Dubai, Connect! If you are in Dubai or Abu Dhabi and looking to connect, then the newly formed SAIS UAE Alumni Network is looking for you! Vahid Fotuhi '02 recently hosted an alumni dinner and is helping alumni link together. Interested? Contact Contact us and, as always, check out the SAIS UAE community online through JHU inCircle. 6) Two Books: One Shelf Treacherous Alliance: The Secret Dealings of Israel, Iran and the U.S. by Trita Parsi Ph.D '06 (Yale University, 2007). This unique and important book takes a closer look at the complicated triangular relations between Israel, Iran and the United States that continue to shape the future of the Middle East. Parsi, president of the National Iranian American Council, has garnered the Council on Foreign Relations Arthur Ross Book Award's Silver Medallion, one of international affairs most significant awards, for his new book. Prosperity Unbound: Building Property Markets With Trust by Elena Panaritis '91 (Palgrave Macmillan, 2007). More than half the world's population lives in informal property markets or what Panaritis coins "unreal" estate. In Prosperity Unbound, Panaritis, economist and social entrepreneur, reveals the keys imperative to unlocking the hidden wealth of informal property markets. Professor Francis Fukuyama provided the book's forward. 7) Reunite Every Friday at SAIS Hankering for a Friday night in Kenney Auditorium or in the Nitze Courtyard with great friends, good conversation and an excellent selection of international beer? Join fellow alumni for a Friday evening happy hour, just for old time's sake. If you would like to help organize an informal reunion for your class at one of SAIS's legendary happy hours starting in September, contact us. 8) What's New With You? E-mail us your latest news and we will share it with the rest of the university community in the next issue of SAISPHERE.
