Career Services | Staff Profiles

SAIS is fortunate to have a staff of seven working to assist students in all aspects of their professional development.  An introduction to each staff member appears below.  In addition to general counseling responsibilities, each counselor develops more specific knowledge in certain employment sectors which are listed in each profile.  Finally, staff members serve as liaisons to specific academic departments at SAIS, working with faculty and students within those concentrations.


Ron Lambert

Ron Lambert          
Director

Ron came to SAIS in 1995 from INSEAD, Europe’s largest graduate school of business located in Fontainebleau, France.  At INSEAD, Ron was the Director of Corporate Development.  With over 14 years of experience in career services, he was previously the Director of Career Services at American University and at Vassar College.

At SAIS, he oversees the strategic planning process for Career Services and leads domestic and international employer development efforts for the school.  He is also an adjunct faculty member in International Relations, where he teaches "Leaders and Leadership:  Principles and Practice."

Sector Focus: Ron works with students interested in pursuing careers in Asia. He manages relationships with private sector employers in New York and Asia.


Michael McKenzie        
Senior Associate Director

Joining SAIS in June of 2004, Michael comes to SAIS from the University of Denver were he completed a dual degree in Higher Education Administration and International/Intercultural Communication. Prior to graduate school, he worked in Japan as a teacher, trainer, and did curriculum development. He also worked for Sigma Nu International Fraternity and has extensive experience working with administration, alumni, and students at universities and colleges across the U.S. 

Sector Focus: Michael coaches students and alumni seeking jobs in foreign and security policy, intelligence, energy, and trade.  He specializes in the government application process and the career development in the U.S. & foreign governments.  He also manages relationships with public, non-profit and private employers focusing on foreign policy, intelligence, trade, and energy and policy research including: U.S. Departments of State, Defense, Energy and Commerce; Capitol Hill; the Intelligence Community; Foreign Embassies; Think Tanks; and Energy Employers.


Setu van Lare-Hodges
Associate Director

Setu van Lare-Hodges has recently joined the SAIS Career Services team as the new Associate Director.  Setu was Assistant Director of Career Services at SAIS from 1997-2001.  After leaving Hopkins, she joined the African Development Bank where she managed the Young Professionals Program (YPP) and served as Principle Recruitment Officer, recruiting and screening international talent for the Bank.  In returning to SAIS, Setu brings her experience in both career counseling students at SAIS and serving as an international recruiter in the development field.

Sector Focus: Setu coaches students and alumni seeking opportunities in international development.  She specializes in the application process for internships, young professional programs and full-time positions in development institutions.  She manages relationships with non-profits, international development consulting firms, international organizations and multilateral development institutions including The World Bank, African Development Bank, Asian Development Bank and the United Nations.


Julie Neill
Associate Director

Julie joined SAIS in June 2011 bringing her prior experience working in career services for a business school, specifically cultivating recruitment relationships on behalf of MBA's and other specialized master's degree students.  Julie started her career working in the humanitarian aid sector and has also worked for the Peace Corps’ Office of Volunteer Recruitment & Selection.  She received a master's degree in international development from the School of Oriental & African Studies (SOAS) in London.

Sector Focus: Julie coaches students and alumni seeking jobs in the private sector, including consulting, finance and journalism. She specializes in job search and interview requirements for management consulting and the financial sector. 


Janet Burrowes

Assistant Director, Employer Relations

Janet is a MBA graduate of Johns Hopkins University. Before coming to SAIS in 2001, she worked as a Business Sales Representative for Cable & Wireless PLC in Barbados. In her current role as Assistant Director, Janet works closely with the Director building and maintaining relationships with employers across all business sectors; she also manages all aspects of the on-campus recruiting program. Janet manages the office online career management systems and assists in overseeing the office budget.

Marina Leinz

Martina Leinz  
Associate Director, Professional Development Skills Courses

Martina joined SAIS in November 2006 to coordinate the Skills Courses Program. Prior to joining SAIS, Martina worked as an integrated marketing communications consultant for a number of non-profit and public sector clients. She also has many years of experience in higher education administration. She has a master's degree in corporate public relations from Northwestern University and a bachelor's degree in political science from UCLA. Her international experience includes two years as a student in Sweden and two years in Japan where she worked as a corporate trainer.




Program Coordinator

The Program Coordinator is responsible for scheduling appointments for students to meet with Career Advisers, the maintenance of the Career Services database, SAISWorks, and the Career Services Web site.  The Program Coordinator also helps students and alumni with their SAISWorks accounts, manages student workers and schedules rooms for Career Services and Career Club events.  SAIS alumni and students who have forgotten their username and/or password or are in need of other assistance with SAISWorks, should e-mail the Program Coordinator at saiscareer@jhu.edu.
