Tuition and Fees

Tuition and School Fees Policies

Tuition is determined by the Board of Trustees of Johns Hopkins University on the recommendation of the president of the university.  Entering students should be prepared for increases during their years of study at SAIS.

When students accept admission into the Master of Arts Program, they must pay a nonrefundable, one-time matriculation fee.  Students from foreign countries with currency restrictions may request a waiver of the fee until registration.  The fee payment reserves a place in the entering class for the student, and admission is not recognized until the fee is paid.

Spring tuition is due January 22, 2012. Financial alerts will be added to your account January 23rd possibly impacting your ability to register. A late fee of $200.00 will be applied February 7, 2012 on any account with a balance. Please contact us at 202-663-5661 or saisbilling@jhu.edu if you have any questions.

Full-time tuition is charged to M.A. students and M.I.P.P. students taking three courses or more.  Tuition and fees are due at registration each semester and may be paid by personal check, e-check or by Visa, MasterCard, Discover, or American Express.  Following registration, a three-day grace period is granted, after which the school assesses a late registration fee and a late payment fee.  A fee is also charged for returned checks.

A student may be due a partial refund if he or she voluntarily withdraws from SAIS.  The withdrawal date is calculated from the date on which the student submits his or her written statement of withdrawal to the associate dean for Student Affairs with copies to the Registrar’s Office and Business Office.  Please contact the Business Office for the official withdrawal policy.

Students who take courses requiring tape cassettes must pay a refundable deposit.

Students who request a proficiency examination in a language not taught at SAIS must pay a fee.

Written requests for a leave of absence or change-of-status should be submitted to the associate dean for Student Affairs.

All full-time students are required to pay the cafeteria fee each semester. Students using the JCARD SAIS dining dollars to purchase meals in the cafe will be exempt from the D.C. sales tax of 10%. Only amounts over $100.00 will be transferred from JCASH to SAIS dining dollars in the event the card is loaded in error.  The un-used cafeteria balance on your graduation date is non-transferable and non-refundable.  Any un-used dining dollars will be removed immediately after graduation.

All fees are subject to change without prior notice.

A student may not register for courses in a new semester if he or she has any unpaid bills or charges from previous semesters, or has not made acceptable financial arrangements with the Business Office to ensure full payment in the semester.  Students are not permitted to take oral examinations, to have transcript information forwarded or to graduate until their financial accounts are cleared.

Tuition Tax Info

Tuition charges and payments for previous year can be found on your IRS form 1098-T.  Your 1098-T form can be obtained via website at http://tcrs.com/.  Tuition payments for May graduates will not have a 1098-T.  The charges for spring semester will show on the previous year 1098-T.  Payments in your graduation year can be calculated by viewing your ISIS account at https://isis.jhu.edu/sswf/
