The dual three-year degree program between SAIS and the Wharton School of Business of the University of Pennsylvania has been designed to prepare the student for a career that combines international relations and business management. The association between these two leading schools answers a demand from the business community and government for a new kind of professional: one who has a thorough knowledge of business as well as an understanding of the global environment in which business is conducted. These two degrees combine to give students a powerful set of tools for building a successful professional career. Three semesters are spent at each institution. Candidates applying concurrently to the M.A.-M.B.A. joint-degree program may submit the GMAT to SAIS in lieu of the GRE; international applicants may be required to submit TOEFL scores and either a GMAT or a GRE. If admitted to both schools, the candidate may choose to start at either school and defer entry to the other. Beyond reducing the semester requirements for each program, students pursuing the SAIS/Wharton joint degree may be eligible to waive specific course requirements. Please note that the Wharton program requires that students begin their program in the fall semester and complete at least two semesters before switching campuses.
