Welcome! The Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) of Johns Hopkins University is one of the world’s leading graduate schools devoted to the study of international relations. What We Look for in an Applicant

SAIS attracts highly motivated students from all over the world who are dedicated to mastering the practice of international relations. The SAIS student body is extremely diverse, and admission to the school is competitive. The Admissions Committee seeks applicants with demonstrated leadership ability, practical professional experience, international exposure and solid academic preparation.

Admissions Requirements for M.A. Applicants

  • Application form and fee
  • Résumé or curriculum vitae
  • Statement of purpose
  • Supplemental essay
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • Official, sealed transcripts from all college-level course work
  • Official test score from the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or the Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT)
  • Official test score from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), if applicable
