Expertise
International relations theory, military strategy and proliferation issues, South Asia, U.S. foreign policy, U.S. national security and U.S.-Asian security relations; India and missile defense, the strategic balance in Asia between India, Pakistan, and China.

Background
Ashley J. Tellis is a Senior Associate at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace in Washington, D.C. He previously served as Senior Advisor to the Ambassador at the Embassy of the United States in India and thereafter on the National Security Council staff as Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for Strategic Planning and Southwest Asia.  Prior to his government service, he was for eight years a Senior Policy Analyst at RAND and Professor of Policy Analysis at the RAND Graduate School.
