International Study Trips 2007 Mexico – With a generous grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation Mexico, eight SAIS LASP students studied underdevelopment and poverty in January 2007, by visiting organizations in Chiapas and Mexico City that work on issues including immigration, human rights, education, indigenous rights and youth empowerment.
China – Through a generous grant from the STARR Foundation, sixteen LASP students from both the D.C. and Bologna campuses traveled to Shanghai and Nanjing in March 2007, to research the expanding political and economic links between China and Latin America. Students met with business sector representatives, local political leaders, academics, journalists and Chinese graduate students. LASP students meet with Jóvenes Constructores, a group that helps youth by working on public construction projects such as school houses and encourages them to stay in school.

Students had the invaluable opportunity to visit the Shanghai Stock Exchange. While there, they were able to see the trading floor and meet with Economist, Danian Situ, to better understand the Chinese currency issue and dynamics of the growing equity market in China.
