Education:
M.A. Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies; B.A. Korea University

Expertise:
North Korean nuclear program; U.S. diplomacy towards North and South Korea

Background:
Served 27 years as the U.S. Department of State senior Korean language interpreter where he participated in almost all bilateral negotiations between Washington and Pyongyang until his retirement in 2005; taught at Korea University; provided lectures on U.S. policy toward the two Koreas at the Graduate University of North Korean Studies and other institutes; currently a regular biweekly columnist for The Korea Times.
