Dr. Charles F. Doran Andrew W. Mellon Professor of International Relations; Director of the Center of Canadian Studies Complementing his work on international relations, Charles Doran has published widely on Canada and on Canada-U.S. relations. In addition to Why Canadian Unity Matters and Why Americans Care: Democratic Pluralism at Risk (2001), he has also written Forgotten Partnership(1984). He has co-authored or edited A New North America: Cooperation and Enhanced Interdependence(1996), The NAFTA Puzzle: Political Parties and Trade in North America (1994); The United States, Canada, and the World Economy (1991); and U.S. – Canada Softwood Lumber (1987). He co-directed the project on Canada—U.S. relations for the Council on Foreign Relations and the American Assembly (1985). In 1985-86, he held the Claude T. Bissell Chair at the University of Toronto. He is a past president of the Association for Canadian Studies in the United States. Awarded the Donner Medal for distinguished scholarship in Canadian Studies. He was the second American to receive the Governor General’s International Award for Canadian Studies, the highest honor given to a scholar in the field. A member of the Council on Foreign Relations, he is also a Senior Associate at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in Washington, DC. Kirk Buckman Adjunct Professor of Canadian Studies Areas of Expertise: Comparative Constitutional Politics in Canada and Western Europe. Background and Education: Assistant Professor of Politics at The Catholic University of America; Ph.D., Politics, Brandeis University (2003); M.A. SAIS (1995). Publications: Received his Ph.D. in May 2003. Has an article, “Divided Government and Constitutional Reform in France and Germany,” in French Politics, 2, 1 (April 2004) and a forthcoming article on Italian citizenship and political reform. Is currently working on an article comparing linguistic politics and constitutional reform in Canada and Belgium and is completing a manuscript on the politics of constitutional reform in Canada, Belgium, Italy, Germany, France and the United Kingdom.
