Students concentrating in American Foreign Policy take a minimum of five courses in the program. Concentrators are encouraged but not required to take the core course, American Foreign Policy Since World War II. If students choose not to take this core course, they must pass the American Foreign Policy Since World War II Core Exam. Students may also enroll in suggested electives offered by other programs below to fulfill their American Foreign Policy concentration course requirements. Those who have had the equivalent of the courses offered may take reading courses or conduct independent research under faculty supervision. Every student must write a major research paper on a subject approved by a full-time faculty member in the American Foreign Policy Program. The paper, which can be written in the Thesis Seminar as a consequence of significant research, in a regular course or through supervised independent research, must receive the program’s approval before the student may take the final oral examination.
