Portugese Language Program | Registration, Placement Tests and Organizational Meetings

Registration

Returning students from the Portuguese program can register online. No need to talk to the Portuguese Program Coordinator before the Organizational Meeting. All new students who have studied Portuguese have to take the Placement Test in order to be placed in a class. Both parts of the exam (written and oral) have to be taken by the new students before entering any class.

Placement Test

The Portuguese placement test has two parts: an oral interview and a written exam. The student should get the written test from the coordinator (R308). This test can take from 15 minutes to 1 hour, depending on the student's previous knowledge of Portuguese. The oral interview will be held at the coordinator's room (R 308).

Organizational Meeting

Portuguese organizational meetings are held on the first Friday (after the beginning of the Language Program) of the fall and spring semesters. In addition to the online announcement, the meeting time and room will be posted on the door of Professor Delgado's office, Rome 308. It’s MANDATORY for all the students, new and returning ones.

It should be noted that, in spite of all of the care taken to organize the schedule, it may change during the first week of classes. It’s therefore advised that students refrain from firming up other commitments before the language class schedule is made final.

SAIS language classes are held between 10:45 AM and 2:00 PM (Tuesday and Thursday) and from 8:00 AM to 12:15 PM (Wednesday and Friday).
