Strategic Studies | Cohen's Corner

Strategic Studies at SAIS makes extensive use of our website for various activities, including coursework, field trips, and staff rides. Students, both current and prospective, should check in here regularly: we update the website  often. The Strategic Studies home page can be found here.

The Strategic Studies prospectus outline may prove helpful to you. And, in addition to the syllabi below, students in my classes should look at my writing guide before composing, and my marginalia page before looking at comments on their papers. I have also prepared a list of a few good books on reading, writing, and presentation. For students interested in additional reading, check the Strategic Studies Core Reading List -- which is, I hasten to add, optional.

Students doing research on strategic studies or military history topics should take a look at my list of outstanding websites -- additional suggestions welcome.  Also, check out the links on the Strategic Studies web site.

Taking part in our film series? Read a short essay, "It's Just a Movie" to prepare for the discussion.

For those of you thinking about a Ph.D. in Strategic Studies, look first at this letter from me. And before asking for a letter of recommendation, be sure to know what I require from you to do so.

I occasionally post papers here in .pdf format. Note: you may need the free Adobe Acrobat® Reader to read them.

Finally, I have posted a copy of my resume here as well (.pdf format).

Note: Professor Cohen is currently on leave with the U.S. Department of State
