International Relations Overview | M.A. Academic Requirements

A student concentrating in General International Relations or in any of its programs will take a total of six IR courses. All IR concentrators must take at least one course from a minimum of three separate IR programs. For students who choose to concentrate in one of the IR programs, at least three courses from that program are required.

IR concentrators must pass the Theories of International Relations Core Exam prior to the end of the first year of study. Students may audit the Theories of International Relations course prior to taking the exam or may take this course for credit as an elective, but this course does not count toward meeting program or distribution requirements for International Relations concentrators. The course is offered both semesters in Washington and Bologna.

International Relations concentrators studying at the Bologna Center must take at least three IR courses in Washington.
