The International Policy Program of the Johns Hopkins University Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) is proud to add the International Environmental Policy Practicum to its curriculum. The Practicum provides the opportunity for SAIS students to work on eight-month-long projects. These projects are designed to address international environmental policy issues of concern to client organizations in a unique and innovative program teams of four students. Each participating team agrees on the terms of reference with its client and academic supervisor. The teams individually prepare a detailed report proposing a workable solution to the policy issue identified by the client. SAIS offers the Practicum as a course, and student teams are assessed by SAIS faculty and held to the highest standards in the work they conduct. However, the Practicum is not intended as merely an “academic” exercise. Clients will pose real and urgent environmental problems and student teams will provide practicable and valuable solutions. Both public and private organizations with interests in international environmental policy are invited to participate in the Practicum. The Henry Luce Foundation has generously provided a three-year grant to develop and test this Environmental Practicum to provide students with practical experience analyzing real-world problems within an institutional setting.
