Dr. Toledo was democratically elected President of Peru for the period July 2001- July 2006. Thanks to an accidental opportunity to access education, Doctor Toledo was able to escape from extreme poverty and attend the most prestigious academic centers of the world, and to later become one of the most prominent democratic leaders of Latin America. Doctor Toledo is the first Peruvian President of indigenous descent to be democratically elected in five hundred years. President Toledo, and his assistant, Avi Tuschman, Ph.D., are located in the Rome building in The Foreign Policy Institute Suite, Room 732 .
