Conflict Management is one of five sub-concentrations within the International Relations concentration. Six courses in IR are required. Those courses must be taken in at least three different subfields, with up to four of them in Conflict Management. In addition to these general International Relations requirements, students taking Conflict Management as their M.A. oral examination field must submit a program paper of publishable quality. The paper is usually the revised product of a regular course or supervised research, and it must be approved before the oral examination can be scheduled. The Jacob and Hilda Blaustein prize for the best program paper is awarded at graduation each year. Students concentrating in Conflict Management must take at least three courses within this program. They also must fulfill the general requirements for the field of International Relations, that is, an additional three IR courses, including courses from two programs other than Conflict Management. Students must take the Theories of International Relations Core Exam or must pass the course by the end of their second semester.
