Degrees | Ph.D. Community

SAIS offers a unique sense of community in one of the most vibrant intellectual, political and economic centers of the United States. Located in an historic business and residential area of the District of Columbia's Dupont Circle neighborhood, SAIS is within walking distance of federal offices, international organizations such as the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund, embassies, research institutions, multinational corporations and numerous shops and restaurants. 

As a small graduate school, SAIS fosters close relationships among peers and between students and faculty. Its many public forums and activities encourage a spirited intellectual life and congenial social environment, where student have frequent opportunities to meet leaders in international politics and business, and provide opportunities for SAIS Ph.D.s to connect within their program and with other Ph.D. candidates.

SAIS Ph.D. candidates participate in a number of co-curricular and extra-curricular events. Each SAIS program area offers a wide variety of area specific and interdisciplinary programing each year. Additionally, there monthly Ph.D. specific gatherings from luncheons and speakers to brown bags and group outings.
