General Information Academic Board The Academic Board consists of the tenured members of the faculty and such other members it may vote to include each year. The Board's principal duties are to recruit and recommend appointments and promotions to the faculty. It also advises the Dean on policy issues that cannot properly or conveniently be considered by the whole faculty or by administrators alone. View the Academic Board members.

Bookstore SAIS uses MBS Direct, an online-only vendor, to provide textbooks to students. In order to utilize this service efficiently, we must provide MBS with advanced notice of a list of textbooks and materials required for all courses. To request your textbook(s), submit the online Textbook Order Form.
The order form permits you to submit requests for required, recommended and optional texts. Please be as specific and accurate as possible when filling out the form to ensure the correct materials are ordered in a timely manner for your courses. Book lists of all classes for which orders have been submitted can be viewed online at http://bookstore.mbsdirect.net/sais-jhu.htm. Any questions regarding textbook ordering should be directed to Sarah Cook in the SAIS Office for Academic Affairs at scook19@jhu.edu . JCards Identification cards (JCards) can be picked up in the Business Office, Nitze 311. Members of the SAIS community may use their JCards to gain entry into school buildings after 6pm and check out books from the library.
JHED Your JHED LID is a unique identifier for your information in the Johns Hopkins University Enterprise Directory. Every faculty member is provided with a JHED LID. If you don't know your JHED LID or password, visit the Johns Hopkins University Enterprise Directory at https://my.johnshopkins.edu. Click the First Time Logon tab (located on the upper left side of the screen), and then follow the directions provided. You can also contact the Help Desk at 410-516-HELP. (Top)
ISIS ISIS is a university-wide web-based student information system. Using your computer, an internet connection, and most supported web browsers, you will be able to view your rosters, view information about your students (including contact information), and submit grades.
Signing in to ISIS You may access the ISIS for Faculty system via this Web site: https://isis.jhu.edu. To sign on to ISIS for Faculty, you will need your JHED login ID (LID) and password.
Accessing Class Rosters After logging on to the ISIS for Faculty website, you will see a screen containing two drop-down fields: To view a roster, select a term from the Term drop-down field. From the Class drop-down field, select your class. The roster for the class that you selected will appear on the screen. Tip: If you only have one class scheduled to take place in a specific term, the student roster will automatically appear after you have selected that term. There is no need to select a class. Once you have accessed a roster, an Action Menu will appear at the top of the screen. From this menu, you can download your course roster in two formats: - Microsoft Excel - You can use this format to track assignments, grades, and attendance.
- Adobe Acrobat (PDF) - You can use this format for a printer friendly version of your course roster.
Emailing Your Students To email a single student: - Begin by opening up your email application (such as Novell GroupWise or Outlook).
- Click the student's email address (located in the Contact Info column of the student roster). A blank email addressed to the student will open.
- Type your email and click Send.
To email the entire class: NOTE: Before emailing your entire class, you should review and, if necessary, update your email address(es) in ISIS. You can do so in the Actions Menu by clicking Options. Addresses established in ISIS are displayed in the pop-up window. Click Add to establish an additional address in ISIS. Type your email address in the yellow box that appears. Click the Save link. A message appears confirming that your email address was successfully saved in ISIS. - Begin by opening up your email application (such as Novell GroupWise or Outlook).
- In the Email row of the Actions region, click the Entire Class link. A blank email addressed to all of the students in the class will open.
- Type your email and click Send.
Entering Grades Faculty can enter grades directly in ISIS or by uploading an Excel Spreadsheet. Grading a Roster in ISIS: - To grade a student roster, you should begin by using the Term and Class drop-down fields to select the roster that you want to grade.
- In the Notes To Registrar drop-down fields, select a value to indicate whether any of your students never attended class or stopped attending.
- Use the drop-down fields in the Grade column to select a grade for each student.
- Once you have graded your students and you're ready to submit your grades to the Registrar's Office, click the Post to Registrars button. The grades will officially be submitted to the Registrar's Office. In addition, the grades that you entered will no longer be editable. If you realize that you need to change a grade after they have already been posted, you will have to contact the Registrar's Office.
Uploading Grades via an Excel Spreadsheet: - To upload your gradeBefore emailing your entire class, you should review and, if necessary, update your email address(es) in ISISs, click the Grade via Excel Spreadsheet link in the Actions region. The Populate Grades via Excel Spreadsheet Upload region appears.
- Click Browse.
- Navigate and select the Excel file on your computer. Click the Open button. The field beside the Browse button is updated with the path and the file name for your Excel document. Click the Upload button. A message appears indicating that the upload was successful.
- Update any invalid grades by selecting a value from the Grade drop-down.
- Click Save Work to save your grades and continue grading.
- Click Post to Registrars to submit final grades. You will not be able to change grades in ISIS after you click Post to Registrars.
