Benefits of Support for the Hopkins-Nanjing Center

Assisting the Hopkins-Nanjing Center to flourish has a positive impact on U.S.-China relations, influences future policy makers in China and the United States, and is appreciated by current leaders in both countries who view this Center as both symbol and substance of productive interaction between us.

The Center benefits its supporters in the near and long term through its:

  1. Positive impact on U.S.-China relations. Each year the Center trains Americans and Chinese to better understand one another. These future leaders leave the Center equipped to break down the misunderstandings that have too-often caused problems in relations between China and the west. A good U.S.-China relationship is the solid foundation that companies need for business development in China and that our two nations need for a secure world.
  2. Influence on future policy makers in China and the United States. The Center's graduates go on to careers in government, academia, and business. Many will rise to decision-making positions in each of these sectors in the future, and much of what they learned and the relationships they formed at the Center will affect those decisions.
  3. Appreciation of partner governments. Chinese and American leaders from the highest levels take note of the donors to this unique joint venture, realizing that contributions to Johns Hopkins directly benefit the Center's Chinese students (through the faculty, library materials, international roommates and other resources Hopkins provides to the Center's Chinese student body) and help all the Center's students to deepen their understanding of the other country's perspectives, values, and points of view.
  4. Human resources opportunities. Supporters of the Center are given invitations to go to Nanjing to participate in the career interest panels and interview this specially-trained bilingual, bicultural group of students. To corporate and individual Council members ---those annual donors who make a $25,000 contribution --- the Center sends an annual compilation of all student resumes.
